ISO/TS 19870: determination of GHG emissions in the hydrogen industry

26/02/2024

Standard ISO/TS 19870:2023 establishes a set of methodologies for determining greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the production, conditioning and transport of hydrogen.
This standard provides a comprehensive framework for assessing the carbon footprint of hydrogen technologies, from production, packaging and transport to consumption gate. It also covers all stages of the life cycle analysis defined in UNE-EN ISO 14067 for quantifying the carbon footprint of products.
The main advantages of its implementation are:
- Standardises the assessment of GHG emissions in the different hydrogen production pathways.
- Supports global climate targets.
- Offers a transparent and reliable reference point.
- Strengthens informed decision-making on the deployment of hydrogen.
