New UNE standards on water quality

21/02/2024

Three standards on water quality were recently published, the implementation of which helps to protect public health, in keeping with SDG 5:clean water and sanitation.
These standards include:

- UNE-EN ISO 5667-1:2024 deals with different types of water sampling: drinking, underground, waste, marine, industrial, cooling, etc. It includes illustrative diagrams of types of periodic and continuous sampling, among others.
- UNE-EN 16479:2024 specifies the general and operating requirements, as well as the conformity test procedures for automatic sampling equipment for water and wastewater from canals or tanks open to the atmosphere. The standard contains an example of the report format.
- UNE-EN 17075: 2020+A1:2024 provides clear and concise instructions on how to use and maintain continuous measurement equipment for water monitoring. It defines statistical procedures for evaluating the test data.

In addition, a key element of any laboratory is the UNE-EN-ISO 17025:2017 standard, which lays out the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
