UNE 77270:2023, building collaborative odour maps

15/07/2024

The purpose of this standard is to establish a methodology for monitoring odour pollution in communities affected in real time through citizen science, that allows:
1. Identifying the sources of odour that alter the well-being of people, causing olfactory discomfort.
2. Measuring the degree of this discomfort
3. Defining a strategy to assess the impact by odour.
Mitigation measures will be established for each particular project.
This standard includes the following in its scope:
- The identification and definition of the affected area, including the history of the situation, APGEMO and key agents of the company.
- The identification, development and implementation of a standardised methodology of citizen science for the collection, processing, visualization and analysis of all the data generated, which will be published as open data.
- The creation of collaborative odour maps based on spatial and temporal information of odour records provided by people potentially being impacted by odour.
- Identification of odour episodes defined, according to their degree of discomfort.
- Measuring the variability of the discomfort perceived by citizens both in time and space.
- The generation of a dialogue tool between the parties involved through transparency and continuous communication, in which the data generated are available as open data in order to reach agreements that are attainable.
- Defining a proposal for future actions to minimise the impact of the odour.
