The new UNE-EN 12663-1:2011+A2:2024 standard specifies the minimum structural requirements for railway vehicle bodies: the loads vehicle bodies should be capable of sustaining, how material data should be used and the principles to be used for design validation by analysis and testing.
This standard applies to locomotives and passenger rolling stock, taking into account that the railway vehicles are divided into categories which are defined with respect to the structural requirements of the vehicle bodies.
In addition to the requirements of this European Standard, the structure of all vehicles associated with passenger conveyance may generally be required to have features that will protect occupants in the case of collision accidents. These requirements are given in UNE-EN 15227:2021.
We also highlight part two of this standard, UNE-EN 12663-2:2011+A1:2024, which facilitates the verification procedure for freight wagons.
