The new UNE-EN ISO 11816-1:2024 standard describes a fluorimetric method for determining alkaline phosphatase activity in whole milk, semi-skimmed milk, skimmed milk and flavoured milk, both raw and heat-treated.
This method can be applied to milk and milk-based drinks made from cow's, sheep's, and goat's milk. It is also applicable to reconstituted powdered milk.
The instrument used to determine ALP is capable of measuring activities of up to 7,000 milliunits per litre (mU/L).
The standard includes an Information Annex on a collaborative study to aid in the proper application of the standard.
