The new UNE-ISO 690 standard describes the requirements for preparing bibliographic references and citations in documents.
It applies to bibliographic references and citations of all types of information resources, including: monographs, serialized publications, contributions in monographs and serialized publications, patents, mapping materials, works of art, interpretations and various electronic resources, such as research data sets, databases, programs and applications, web archives, social media, music, sound recording, photographs, graphic and audiovisual materials, archiving sources and moving images.
UNE-ISO 690 provides a system for citing information resources that offer deterministic results, such that a citation generated by this system can be uniquely mapped to the originally defined set of source elements.
This system is designed to work in all natural languages. Citations generated by this system are machine-readable. The citation system described in this document can be used as a configurable framework to create citation styles.
